La Astronave, 2016
La Astronave (Spanish for “The Spaceship”) is an art monument and gallery devoted to the story of the Myth of the Goddess Ayahuasca as told for centuries by the tribes of the Ucayali river. The gallery was built specifically for its walls to be painted in a series of consecutive murals which together portray the myth in consecutive storyboards, each painted in the individual style of the 19 professional visionary artists who participated in the event
In January 2016 La Astronave Mythic Party, the 5-day painting festival, represented our first step on the path of offering free festivals devoted specifically to collective art. To our surprise, not only were the 19 artists enthusiastically painting throughout the festival, the 40+ ‘non artist’ guests were also swept up in the creative energy and also expressed a desire to participate. This inspired us to take the next step on our journey into truly Collective Art which was expressed in the following year’s project, La Mama.
